PITTSBURGH -– Michael Morse’s walkup music is “Take On Me,” but Giants manager Bruce Bochy had to decline when he put together the roster for Wednesday’s NL wild card game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
But Morse would be a strong candidate to make the cut if the Giants advance to play his former club, the Washington Nationals, in an NL Division Series.
“If this thing goes on, he will be activated at some point,” Bochy said. “He’s just not ready today. Believe me, I wish he (were). It would be nice to have him coming off the bench, but he’s not quite ready.”
Morse has tried swinging a bat in the cage but his strained oblique, which has kept him out since Aug. 31, remains an issue. He hasn’t been able to take BP on the field.
Bochy said “there was no question” about putting Tim Lincecum on his roster, and if he has to use Jake Peavy in any capacity, it would make him “questionable” to start a potential Game 1 at Washington on Friday.
That’s it for pregame notes and buildup.
We’ll leave you with this: How ready are Pirates fans for this? They booed the heck out of Ryan Vogelsong in pregame introductions, and he hasn’t pitched here in a decade.
