LOS ANGELES -- When the Giants return to AT&T Park on Friday, they'll have a slight change on the coaching staff.
Assistant hitting coach Joe Lefebvre is stepping down and will be replaced by Steve Decker, currently a minor league instructor. General manager Bobby Evans said the change has nothing to do with any on-field results. Lefebvre will be a pro scout for the organization.
"It's an opportunity for him to scout, and he was an integral part of our success in 2010 doing pro scouting for us," Evans said. "The timing, as much as it's unusual, it's also something I think has been on his mind for a while. There's a passion there. His appetite has grown toward that side of the game, and he really wants an opportunity to feed that."
Lefebvre is in his 21st season with the organization. Prior to joining the staff as an assistant to Hensley Meulens, he worked as a senior advisor of pro scouting. Decker, 49, played seven big league seasons, including four for the Giants.

--- Bruce Bochy said Hunter Pence "had his best day" of rehab. If all goes well the next couple days, Pence (forearm fracture) could take BP this weekend. "He's really close to taking BP on the field," Bochy said. "So he's excited."
Yeah, we already knew that.
--- Matt Cain played catch for a second straight day and reported that all went well. Bochy has said the Giants will ramp it up with Cain (flexor strain) after these initial catch sessions.
