SAN FRANCISCO – Giants minor league third baseman Nathanael Javier has been suspended 50 games for violating baseball’s minor league drug program, the league announced.

Javier tested positive for metabolites of stanozolol, also known as Winstrol, which is a hard-core anabolic steroid.

Javier, 17, was the Giants’ second biggest international signee last season, receiving a $475,000 bonus. The Dominican native batted .229 with two home runs and 28 RBIs in 59 games for the Giants’ club in the Dominican Summer League.

His suspension will take effect at the start of next season.
