SAN FRANCISCO -- The best performance of Chris Heston's career earned him recognition from Major League Baseball.
Heston, who threw a no-hitter in New York last Tuesday, was named National League Co-Player of the Week on Monday, along with Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton. Heston struck out 11 and walked none while no-hitting the Mets. It was the fourth no-hitter in four seasons for the Giants, and Heston became the first player in MLB history to throw a no-hitter despite hitting three batters.
His follow-up performance on Sunday wasn't as sharp, but for the week Heston allowed just two runs in 14 innings while striking out 17.
Stanton joined Heston by hitting five homers, driving in 12 runs and posting a 1.280 slugging percentage for the Marlins.
Heston's next start will come Friday in Los Angeles against the first-place Dodgers.
