PHOENIX -- For at least a day, the Giants have avoided placing additional players on the disabled list.
Brandon Belt said the MRI on his right groin revealed a very mild strain. Jake Peavy finally was able to loosen up a bothersome SI joint in his lower back and threw a strenuous bullpen session. He remains on track to start Sunday in San Diego.
"We'll re-evaluate him tomorrow when we get to San Diego and see where we're at," manager Bruce Bochy said. "But he feels a lot better."
Peavy came in early for an hour of intense treatment on his back.
"It's made some really nice improvement," he said.
Belt took about 25 swings in the cage and said that while he can feel the groin injury while swinging, "for being 24 hours out -- less than that -- it feels pretty good."
Bochy thought he might be available to pinch-hit Wednesday.
"We're going to give him a couple days and see how he does," he said. "It's a day-to-day deal (to start). If he's not making progress then we'll make a call."
