SAN DIEGO-- Cuban outfielder Yasmany Tomas and the Arizona Diamondbacks have finalized a $68.5 million, six-year contract.
Arizona said Monday the deal was signed a day earlier in the Dominican Republic.
Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart says "the opportunity to find a power bat like Tomas does not come along very often and we are extremely excited for him to join the D-backs."
Tomas, 24, hit .375 (6 for 16) for Cuba with two homers and five RBIs in last year's World Baseball Classic. The Diamondbacks may shift him to third base.
Stewart says "we believe that he can have a real impact on our lineup in the years to come."
