The Cubs have hired former Giants third baseman Bill Mueller as their hitting coach, the club announced Friday.
Hiring Mueller was one of several moves made by the Cubs, who recently hired Rick Renteria as their new manager. Dale Sveum was let go by Chicago at the end of last season.
Mueller played with the Giants from 1996-2000 and briefly again in 2002. He hit .291 over his career with the Giants, Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers, and won a batting title with Boston in 2003 when he hit .326
Former Giants third baseman Matt Williams was hired as the Washington Nationals' manager in October.
