Cain reinstated from DL to face D'backs

The Giants reinstated Matt Cain from the disabled list Saturday, in time to make the evening start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The right-hander will play in his first game since Aug. 22, when he was struck in the right forearm by a line drive off the bat of Gaby Sanchez.

It was Cain's first career trip to the disabled list.

The nine-year veteran who signed an extension in April that gave him a six-year, $127.5 million contract is 8-8 with a 4.43 ERA and 140 strikeouts to 47 walks in 26 starts this year. The 4.43 ERA is a single season career high for Cain.
