The Giants are expected to meet with star free agent pitcher Jon Lester in Atlanta on Monday, and head coach Bruce Bochy will be present for the recruiting pitch, CSNBayArea.com has learned.
Lester is in high demand. The Cubs are said to have bid $138 million over six years for his services, the Red Sox are considering $130 million over six years and the Braves are in the mix as well, according to CBS Sports.
Atlanta native and good friend Tim Hudson is expected to help recruit Lester to San Francisco and with Bochy making the trip, it's clear the Giants feel that San Francisco is a legitimate destination.
Lester, 30, went 16-11 with a 2.46 ERA over 32 starts between the Red Sox and A's last season and is one of the top starting pitchers on the market.
On his Twitter profile, Lester recently updated his location to ".......???......."
After free agent Pablo Sandoval opted to join the Boston Red Sox, the Giants were left with close to $100 million that was previously budgeted for the third baseman. The Giants still need a third baseman, a left fielder and starting pitching.
The Blue Jays, Cardinals and Royals have also been linked to Lester, who is said to have meetings lined up with two other teams prior to winter meetings next week in San Diego.
