Kap's night: One block, one completion, one FG drive

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Running back Frank Gore had a short yet productive debut to his exhibition season Friday night.

Gore, who did not play in the first exhibition game of the summer, broke off a 52-yard run on the 49ers' first play from scrimmage Friday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gore's run helped set up Phil Dawson's 42-yard field goal to cap a five-play, 51-yard drive. On the play, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was 25 yards down the field running interference with a block on cornerback Sean Smith.

Kaepernick started and played just the first series of the game. He completed one of two pass attempts for minus-3 yards -- a pass to LaMichael James.

Just like in the exhibition opener last week against the Denver Broncos, Kaepernick led the offense for one drive, which resulted in a field goal.

Third receiver Chad Hall was wide open on a third-down pass but Kaepernick overthrew him in the end zone to end the starters' one and only drive.
