SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers eliminated one wide receiver from their crowded competition Tuesday morning.

Charly Martin, who on Sunday made one of the best catches of training camp, was waived. The 49ers re-signed rookie punter Colton Schmidt, who the team cut last week to make room for receivers Lavelle Hawkins and Austin Collie.

The 49ers now have 11 wide receivers on their active camp roster. Martin supplied a highlight on Sunday when he wrestled a pass away from starting cornerback Carlos Rogers.

The 49ers originally claimed Martin off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks on July 12. He caught four passes for Seattle in four games last season.
