Major League Soccer MVP Chris Wondolowski, who tied a league record with 27 goals scored last season, has signed a new contract with the Earthquakes, according to a report.

Citing a source close to the situation, Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated reports that Wondolowski will double his 2012 salary of $300,000 as a Designated Player this season, the first of the four-year deal. The first three seasons of the new contract are guaranteed.

The 30-year-old Wondolowski will look to build on his impressive 2012 season when the Earthquakes open the 2013 campaign in San Jose against Real Salt Lake on Sunday.
