Charles Woodson has his old number back. The former Raider and Bay Area icon wore No. 2 –- his college number at Michigan –- during the offseason program, but it seemed only a matter of time before he reclaimed his signature No. 24. Tracy Porter claimed the number before Woodson was signed in May. A transaction or a trade was expected for Woodson's favorite number, but the Raiders took it from Porter instead.
This tweet from Tracy Porter confirms it:
Well you Raiders fans...your guy has 24. It was TAKEN from me and given to him. #congrats.....too funny how this biz "works"— ♌Tracy Porter♌ (@TracyPorter) July 24, 2013
Strange part: Porter says the number wasn’t sold to Woodson. It was taken from him by the team when he reported to training camp. Notice that “taken” is in all caps. That’s unusual in situations like this, but being Charles Woodson has its advantages.
Porter sent out another tweet, saying that he wasn’t upset at losing the number. He wasn’t thrilled at the procedure of doing so.
Not mad at all...it's just the principle and the way it was handled.....said my piece, now back to football.— ♌Tracy Porter♌ (@TracyPorter) July 24, 2013
Porter is expected to wear No. 31.
