PHOENIX -- Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha would be a "great fit" for the New Orleans Saints, general manager Mickey Loomis told The Times-Picayune on Monday.

Loomis and coach Sean Payton met with Asomugha before they departed for the NFL Annual Meeting at the Arizona Biltmore, Loomis said. It was previously believed Loomis and Payton left for Arizona before Asomugha arrived in New Orleans.

"We're always looking for good players to improve our team and we think Nnamdi would be a great fit for our defense and our team," Loomis told the newspaper.

Asomugha, released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week, visited the 49ers on Thursday and remains a free agent.
