Quarterback Pat White, who launched his NFL comeback attempt Thursday with a workout at the 49ers' practice facility, is scheduled to visit the New York Giants early next week, the New York Daily News reported.

White worked out for 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh on Thursday and took a physical, a source told CSNBayArea.com. Reached by phone Thursday evening, White declined comment.

Starter Colin Kaepernick and Scott Tolzien are the only 49ers quarterbacks under contract after the team traded Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs on March 12.

The 49ers currently have 60 players under contract. The NFL offseason roster limit is 90 players. White, 27, who appeared in 13 games for the Miami Dolphins in 2009, is not eligible for the practice squad.

The 49ers have acquired five free agents this offseason. In each case, the team signed the new player to a contract before he left town on his initial visit.

Three free agents who visited the 49ers remain unsigned: cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, safety Charles Woodson and defensive end John Abraham.
