SANTA CLARA -- David Akers, who missed a 38-yard field-goal attempt Sunday in the NFC Championship Game, will handle the 49ers' kicking duties in the Super Bowl.

"The decision's already been made," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. "David Akers is our kicker."

The 49ers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 to advance to the Super Bowl. Harbaugh was seen watching Akers intently during pregame warmups, and he was impressed with what he saw.

"That's pretty much every game," he said. "This was no different. I enjoy watching both kickers pregame. And he had an outstanding pregame. He missed one 60-yarder, but was hitting the ball really well."
