PHOENIX -- As expected, NFL awarded the 49ers three compensatory picks to give them a total of 14 selections in next month's draft.

Teams are not allowed to trade their compensatory selections. The 49ers had one compensatory pick at the end of the fourth round, and two more at the end of the seventh round:

Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

The NFL listed the 49ers as losing three free agents: Blake Costanzo, Joshua Morgan and Madieu Williams. (There is no explanation why Adam Snyder, who signed with the Arizona Cardinals, was not mentioned.) The one free agent the 49ers signed last year that qualifies under the formula was Mario Manningham.

Also, the NFL confirmed that the 49ers gave up their own sixth-round pick, No. 199 overall, to the Baltimore Ravens. The 49ers held on to their earlier sixth-round pick, No. 180, acquired last year from the Miami Dolphins.
