EDMONTON – The Sharks broke several franchise records with their dominant first period in Edmonton on Tuesday night.

Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture each scored twice, while Dan Boyle and Marc-Edouard Vlasic potted one apiece. Three of the goals came on the power play, including Boyle’s at 3:17 to open the scoring (on a two-man advantage), and one each from Couture and Marleau.

The six goals tied a Sharks franchise record for most in a period. It’s the third time that’s happened in the 22-year history of the club, the most recent of which came on March 11, 2010 against Nashville – an 8-5 win.

It’s the first time the Sharks scored six in a period on the road. The three power play goals on the road tied a franchise record. That hasn’t happened since Dec. 19, 1995 at Anaheim in the second period of a 7-4 win.

The Sharks led the Oilers 6-1 at the end of the first period, chasing starting goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Ten different players registered at least a point in the period, including Joe Thornton, who had three assists.
