Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval will continue his rehab assignment in San Jose this weekend, and will likely rejoin the club on Monday when it opens a home series with the Washington Nationals, manager Bruce Bochy said on Saturday morning.
Sandoval played five innings in Class-A San Joses game against Lancaster on Friday night, going 0-for-2 with a pair of fly outs, and is scheduled to play seven innings on Saturday. Hes been out since July 24 with a strained left hamstring.
Hell probably play one more game Sunday and well hope all goes well there, Bochy said. Hell possibly be joining us in the next series.
The Giants, who managed just three hits in a 3-0 Friday night loss to Colorado, could use Sandovals bat. San Francisco plays nine of its next 15 games at home, including a pair this weekend against the Rockies, and has scored just two runs in 27 innings in the last three games at AT&T Park with a paltry .114 batting average.
In 62 games this season, Sandoval is batting .299 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.
