For the last year Comcast SportsNet let me live my dream. I had the opportunity to cover the Oakland Athletics during one of their most magical seasons to date. Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a beat writer covering the A's. Everything I did in my career led up to landing that job.
I decided to enjoy every moment of it, because it seemed to be too good to be true. I'm an East Bay kid and you all accepted me with open arms. I tried to tell stories through the eyes of the A's fans, because it is something I can relate to.
Now I will get to take that a step further. With Paul Gutierrez taking over as A's Insider, I will get to flex my creative muscles like never before. As a beat writer your duty is to chase hard news, but I have always much preferred tweaking the way our coverage is presented. Through my relationships with the team, I want to bring you a different brand of coverage. You'll get to know the players better, go behind the scenes more, and after numerous invitations, I'll finally get to spend some time in the right field bleachers.
Paul will handle the hard news and I will handle the rest. I'm going to get viral, interactive, crazy, and try and change the game.
This wasn't an easy decision to make. When this opportunity was presented to me, I decided it was too intriguing to pass up. I will be starting a new section of CSNBayArea.com called 'Press Pass.' My mission will be to cover all of the teams in the Bay Area and bring out the interesting, fun and sometimes goofy side of our Bay Area franchises and fans. It is a position that CSN is creating here in the Bay Area. If I do it right, I hope it is something that will catch on in all of our regions. I'm a digital columnist now, and you'll still get to see me on TV.
I'm not leaving you guys. I'll still be at the Oakland Coliseum almost as much as I was before. Paul, Kate Longworth and I will bring you the best A's coverage imaginable. I just wanted to reach out and let you all know what is going on. During my time as A's Insider I made it a priority to have an open line of communication with you, because I'm not here without your support. I hope we can keep that going.
