The Warriors will travel to China as part of the 2013 NBA Global Games and host a pair of home games at Oracle Arena as part of a seven-game preseason schedule leading up to Opening Night on October 30, the team announced today.
The Warriors trip to China will begin in Beijing, where the team faces the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, October 15, at the MasterCard Center, which was home to the basketball competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The two teams will then travel to Shanghai to meet again on Friday, October 18, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
This marks the second time that the Warriors have traveled to China, as the team also made the trip in October of 2008 to play a pair of games against the Milwaukee Bucks – a 94-98 loss in Guangzhou and a 109-108 victory in Beijing. Overall, this is the fifth time that Golden State has traveled outside of the United States and Canada for preseason contests. In October of 1994, the Warriors went 2-0 on the 1994 NBA Europe Tour, beating the Charlotte Hornets 132-116 in Paris, France, and downing Spanish professional team Joventut Badalona 122-104 in Badalona, Spain. Additionally, Golden State has twice played in Mexico, besting the New Jersey Nets 117-91 in Mexico City in October of 1999, and beating the Denver Nuggets 121-115 in Monterrey in October of 2006.
Golden State’s two home preseason games at Oracle Arena are set for Monday, October 7 against the Sacramento Kings and Thursday, October 24 against the Portland Trail Blazers.
To begin their preparations for the preseason and the upcoming NBA campaign, the Warriors will hold training camp at the team’s practice facility in downtown Oakland beginning Saturday, September 28. Following training camp, the Warriors will play a neutral-site game against the Lakers in Ontario, CA on Saturday, October 5.
Additional road games include at Utah on October 8, and October 23 in Sacramento.
