GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Chris Sale is expected to miss three weeks after he suffered a foot injury, the White Sox announced Saturday morning.
The left-hander, who finished third in voting for the American League Cy Young Award last season, had X-rays after he suffered an avulsion fracture on the lateral side of his right foot in an accident at home, the club announced in a press release.
The White Sox said they would wait until swelling subsides to better determine Sale’s status for the Opening Day roster.
Sale, who went 12-4 with a 2.17 ERA in 26 starts last season, has made starts each of the past two Opening Days for the White Sox.
