The A's selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodriguez from Triple-A Nashville and designated right-handed pitcher Chad Smith for assignment, the team announced Thursday morning.
Rodriguez was 0-0 with a 2.81 ERA in 10 games, including one start, with Nashville. He held opponents to a .143 batting average, with breaks down to .120 against right-handed hitters and .161 against left-handers.
He has not allowed a run over his past five games and 8.2 innings for the Sounds. Rodriguez will be making his A’s season debut. He was 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in seven relief appearances over two stints with Oakland last year.
Smith was recalled from Nashville on May 3 and allowed five runs in 1.1 innings over two relief appearances for the A’s. He was 1-1 with two saves and a 2.31 ERA in eight relief appearances for the Sounds.
