Free agent third baseman Chase Headley reportedly agreed to a four-year deal to return to the Yankees on Monday.

But long before he made his decision, the A's made a "competitive bid' for the former Padre, according to Fox Sports.
The report states that if Headley had picked the A's, they would have moved recently-acquired third baseman Brett Lawrie to second base.
In four major league seasons, Lawrie has played 332 games at third base and 38 games at second base.
