A’s hitting coach Chili Davis interviewed with another American League East team on Friday, as multiple outlets have reported Davis talked with the Boston Red Sox.
That comes one day after Davis interviewed with the New York Yankees. Both teams have hitting coach vacancies to fill, and toss the Texas Rangers into the mix as another team reportedly interested in Davis’ services.
The Rangers still have Dave Magadan under contract as their hitting coach, but his status with Texas is in flux given that the Rangers just hired a new manager in Jeff Banister. Magadan is rumored to be a target of both the Yankees and New York Mets.
Davis has spent the past three seasons as Oakland’s hitting coach. But if he leaves, the A’s would have to two coaching vacancies to fill. Bench coach Chip Hale was hired away to be the Arizona Diamondbacks’ new manager.
