The Sacramento River Cats are reportedly bringing in reinforcements as they make a push for a Pacific Coast League playoff spot.
Addison Russell, the top prospect in the Oakland A's organization, will join the River Cats for their final weekend of games according to Zack Boyrouty, the play-by-play broadcaster for the Stockton Ports.
Russell, the A's first-round pick in 2012, has spent the entire 2013 season in Stockton where he hit .275/.377/.508 with 29 doubles, 17 home runs and 60 RBI in 107 games. Last week, he was named California League Rookie of the Year and was selected to the league's Post Season All-Star team.
The 19-year-old will lead a group of top A's prospects headed to the Arizona Fall League after the season. The AFL is considered a showcase for baseball's top prospects as they prepare for the jump to the big leagues.
Russell also started for the U.S. Futures squad in the 2013 Futures Game at the MLB All-Star Game in New York.
