The Oakland A’s recalled left-handed pitcher Patrick Schuster from Triple-A Nashville and optioned left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton to Nashville, the club announced Saturday.
Schuster joins the A’s for the second time this year and has a 15.43 ERA in four relief appearances. He was originally selected from Nashville July 4 and made his Major League debut the next day at Minnesota, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in one inning. The 25-year-old left-hander allowed four runs on five hits in 2.0 innings July 20 against Houston and was optioned to Nashville the next day. Schuster is 1-0 with seven saves, a 1.16 ERA and .194 opponents batting average in 32 games with the Sounds and has not surrendered a home run in 38.2 innings. He has not allowed a run in his last nine Triple-A games (12.2 ip, 6 h, 2 bb, 13 so).
Overton was recalled from Nashville July 30 for his third stint with the A’s this year and went 0-2 with a 17.05 ERA in two starts. He is 1-3 with a 10.97 ERA and .413 opponents batting average in five starts overall and has yielded 11 home runs in 21.1 innings. Overton is 10-4 with a 3.21 ERA in 17 games, 16 starts, with Nashville, where he has surrendered just three home runs in 103.2 innings.
