The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt from Triple-A Nashville and optioned right-handed pitcher Angel Castro to Nashville, the club announced Saturday morning.
Bassitt joins the A’s for the fourth time this year and is 0-2 with a 2.93 ERA in eight games, including three starts. He logged a 3.38 ERA in five relief appearances during his first stint from April 23 to May 10 and has gone 0-2 with a 2.65 ERA in three starts over his last two.
The 26-year-old right-hander made one appearance during his last stint, starting on July 11 at Cleveland when Jesse Hahn went on the disabled list. He allowed two runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings but had a no decision in a 5-4 A’s win and was optioned back to Nashville the next day.
Bassitt is also 2-7 with a 3.65 ERA in 13 games, 10 starts, with the Sounds. He made one start with Nashville following his July 12 option and was the losing pitcher in a 3-0 loss to Omaha last Sunday when he allowed two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out six in 6.0 innings.
Castro was recalled from Nashville yesterday for his second stint with the A’s this year. He tossed a scoreless sixth inning last night and is now 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and .444 opponents batting average in five games with Oakland. Castro is also 2-1 with a save and a 3.40 ERA and .242 opponents batting average in 21 games, including two starts, with the Sounds.
