MESA, Ariz. –- A’s radio play-by-play man Ken Korach will not be at the mic for the early portion of spring broadcasts due to complications from a knee injury.
The A’s forwarded a letter from Korach to the media on Wednesday. Ray Fosse will join Vince Cotroneo for radio broadcasts until Korach returns.
The first broadcast is Saturday’s 12:05 p.m. (PT) game against the Los Angeles Angels on 95.7 The Game.
Korach originally underwent a knee replacement in 2012. The following is the full text of Korach’s letter:
Dear Athletics Friends and Colleagues:
I've been working with Ken Pries on the timing of this email because I've been holding out hope that I can make it to Arizona for the first spring training broadcast, but now I know that I won't make it.
To make a long story short, I've been dealing with a significant injury to my left knee. I had a replacement in the same knee in 2012, and had no issues with the knee for almost three years.
I've been told by my doctors that the replacement itself is fine. However--and I don't pretend to be able to speak with the expertise of a doctor--any injury to a knee that has had a replacement becomes magnified.
Right now, of course, the goal is to get better. I need to heal and do the rehab, and the process has been slow. (I should also mention that I am getting excellent care.)
As I said at the beginning of this letter, I sincerely doubt that I will be available for the games early in the Cactus League. Ken Pries and Mike Crowley have been very understanding and have assured me that my recovery is the most important thing.
In the interim, I know the broadcasts will be in very good hands with Vince and Ray.
Thanks very much and, of course, I'd love to be down there in Arizona enjoying the spring and getting ready for the season.
Best Regards,
Ken Korach
