The A's optioned starting pitcher Jesse Hahn to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday and recalled reliever J.B. Wendelken.
Hahn made two starts since he himself was recalled from the minors, one which was excellent and one where he struggled with four walks Saturday against Baltimore. His demotion could have to do with the A's wanting an extra reliever until they need to promote a spot starter for Wednesday due to Friday's rainout, which necessitated a doubleheader Saturday.

Worth keeping in mind: The A's also have starter Henderson Alvarez coming off the disabled list, probably on the next homestand, and a current starter would have to give way at that point anyway.
Wendelken was acquired from the White Sox in the Brett Lawrie trade in December. The first appearance for the right-hander will be his major league debut.
