The Mets signed former A's first baseman Brandon Allen to a contract, the team announced on Tuesday.
It's a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training next February.
Allen was a highly touted prospect, picked fourth overall by the Chicago White Sox in 2004, but has fizzled in the majors. Allen has had success in the minor leagues, hitting 17 home runs last season for the Padres Triple-A affiliate.
During his tenure with the A's, Allen hit for .196/.248/.340 with 60 strikeouts in just 44 games. He was waived in 2012, during his second season with the club.
