Left fielder Coco Crisp appears on his way back to the A’s and on the verge of making his 2015 debut.
The veteran outfielder posted an Instagram picture of himself on a plane, with the caption: “I had a blast in Stockton wit all young prospects now it's time to get back wit the big boys...” He also added “#minnesotabound”
Crisp, sidelined all season while recovering from April 3 elbow surgery, played rehab games with Single-A Stockton on Sunday and Monday, going a combined 2-for-8 with a double, an RBI and a run scored while playing left field.
Crisp’s itinerary would suggest he’ll be activated from the disabled list in time for Wednesday night’s game against the Twins. Offense hardly has been the A’s downfall in their 11-16 start, but the return of the switch-hitting leadoff man will nonetheless provide a boost, perhaps psychologically as much as anything.
It’ll be interesting to see what roster move the A’s make to get him on the 25-man roster. Speedy switch-hitter Billy Burns, called up from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, has started in center and hit leadoff in three straight games and gone 5-for-14. Crisp will be playing left field this season, having made the switch from center.
Rookie infielder Max Muncy could be an option to send down, but it would seem that veteran Craig Gentry – hitting .086 in 16 games this season – could also be on the bubble as well.
