A’s outfielder Coco Crisp will join the 15-day disabled list to clear a roster spot for pitcher Kendall Graveman, manager Bob Melvin announced Friday night.
The move doesn’t come as a surprise since Crisp hasn’t played since leaving Tuesday’s game with neck soreness. Graveman officially will be recalled from the minors to start Saturday’s game in place of the injured Drew Pomeranz.
Crisp has said he won’t opt for surgery on his neck, which would likely be career-ending. He has battled neck problems since slamming into an outfield wall last season trying to catch a fly ball at the Coliseum. He also missed the first 28 games of this season after having arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow. Upon his return, Crisp was 2-for-45 in 13 games.
