Marco Estrada took a perfect game against the Rays into the eighth inning. And Josh Donaldson's diving catch -- going into the stands to rob David DeJesus -- kept it intact.
Estrada's perfect game and no-hitter were spoiled on an infield single one batter later -- despite a strong bare-handed effort from Donaldson -- but the Blue Jays still walked away with a 1-0 win in extras.
The highlight should be a familiar sight for A's fans, who have witnessed Donaldson going hard into the Oakland tarp a number of times during his tenure in Green and Gold.
Donaldson, 29, is out to a strong start for Toronto. He is hitting .298 with 17 home runs, 46 RBI and 56 runs through 72 games and is right on the heels of Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas to start for the AL All-Stars.
In exchange for Donaldson, the A's received third baseman Brett Lawrie, right-hander Kendall Graveman, left-hander Sean Nolin and shortstop Franklin Barreto from Toronto this offseason.
