Anderson leaves game with back spasms

ARLINGTON, Texas -- A's reliever Brett Anderson left Friday's game at Texas with back spasms.

Anderson entered in the bottom of the eighth and faced just two batters, walking Adrian Beltre and A.J. Pierzynksi, before manager Bob Melvin and assistant trainer Walt Horn visited the mound. AFter just a couple of minutes, Anderson left the field and was relieved by Jesse Chavez.

Anderson's career has been plagued by injuries since the 2011 season, when he underwent Tommy John elbow surgery. He missed four months of this season while recovering from a sprained right ankle and a stress fracture in his right foot.

The A's beat the Rangers 9-8 in Friday's series opener to take a 4 1/2 game lead in the A.L. West.
