OAKLAND -– The Oakland A’s agreed to terms with nine players from the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, including right-handed pitcher Dakota Chalmers (3rd round, North Forsyth HS), the club announced today.
The other eight are first baseman Chris Iriart (12th, Houston), second baseman Ryan Howell (15th, Nevada), right-handed pitcher Dustin Hurlbutt (16th, Tabor), catcher Brett Sunde (18th, Western Michigan), outfielder Seth Brown (19th, Lewis-Clark State), left-handed pitcher Andrew Tomasovich (21st, Charleston Southern), catcher Jordan Devencenzi (26th, Nevada) and shortstop Tim Proudfoot (35th, Texas Tech).
Chalmers went 4-4 with a 1.50 ERA in 12 games, including five starts, as a senior at North Forsyth HS. He struck out 82 in 51.1 innings and did not surrender a home run while holding the opposition to a .166 batting average.
Howell hit .312 with 17 home runs and 65 RBI in 56 games for Nevada. He ranked sixth in Division I in home runs and 15th in RBI. Howell graduated from Heritage HS in Brentwood, Calif. and also attended Chabot College. Devencenzi batted .294 with Nevada and is a graduate of West High School in Tracy, Calif.
The A’s have now signed or agree to terms with 27 of their 40 selections from the draft, including eight of the first 10 and 16 of the first 21.
