ST. LOUIS -- Linebacker Patrick Willis did not practice this week due to a groin strain and is questionable to play Thursday night.

Willis is considered a game-time decision for the 49ers’ game Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams. Teams must submit their list of seven inactive players 90 minutes before kickoff.

Willis and third cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha were the only eligible 49ers players who did not practice this week. Asomugha is nursing a right knee sprain, and is not expected to play.

Willis and Asomugha were injured in the second half of the 49ers’ 27-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. If Willis unable to play, linebacker Michael Wilhoite would make his first NFL start. Willis, who earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his six NFL seasons, started all 16 games last season after missing three games in 2011 with a hamstring injury.

Tramaine Brock would most likely take over the No. 3 cornerback duties for Asomugha.

Tight end Vernon Davis, who sat out the 49ers’ loss to the Colts with a left hamstring strain, returned to limited practice this week. A decision on his status will be made after he takes part in pregame warmups.

The 49ers will play their first game without All-Pro outside linebacker Aldon Smith, who took a voluntary leave of absence this week to undergo treatment for substance abuse. Rookie Corey Lemonier and veteran Dan Skuta are both expected to see action in Smith's absence.
