SANTA CLARA -- In the first two games of the season, the 49ers experienced an impressive crowd on their side and one that was not so great.
On Sunday, the 49ers hit the road for a key NFC West game against the unbeaten Arizona Cardinals. And that’s where they seem to feel most at home these days.
San Francisco fans packed AT&T Stadium -- the one that is home to the Dallas Cowboys, not the park the baseball Giants inhabit -- for the 49ers’ season opener. Red-clad 49ers fans turned out in large and loud numbers to witness their team’s 28-17 victory.
But the 49ers did not seem to have much of a home-field edge on Sunday night while blowing a 17-point lead in a 28-20 loss to the Chicago Bears in the opener at Levi’s Stadium.
“I noticed at times it was good and loud, yeah,” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said of the home crowd. “And other times it could be improved.”
While the action on the field, featuring the unbeaten Cardinals and 49ers (1-1) figures to be fiercely competitive, so should the battle for tickets. In recent seasons, the 49ers have gotten noticeable support in road cities. And Arizona has been a location where fans of visiting teams have been able to secure seats to root against the home team.
“We had a great crowd for our Monday night game in the opener (against the San Diego Chargers),” Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said. “Historically, visiting teams have had access to tickets here. And hopefully our guys are keeping theirs.”
