Seattle Seahawks free-agent cornerback Walter Thurmond is heading to visit the 49ers, he revealed Thursday on his verified Twitter account.
Thurmond visited with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday. Former Seahawwks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is the Jaguars head coach.
“Great visit with Gus and the Jaguars Organization, some good people,” Thurmond wrote on Twitter. “They're headed in the right direction. Now off to San Fran.”
Thurmond makes a lot of sense for the 49ers, who released Carlos Rogers this week. Rogers has been the player responsible for covering the slot receiver the past three seasons. Thurmond handled that duty with the Seahawks.
Thurmond, a four-year veteran from Oregon, started three of the 12 games in which he appears last season for the Seahawks. He served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
Free-agent Tarell Brown, a starter for the 49ers for the past three seasons, remains unsigned as an unrestricted free agent.
