Former Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver interviewed Friday with new 49ers coach Jim Tomsula in Santa Clara, according to multiple sources.
Tarver is considered a likely candidate to land a job on Tomsula’s coaching staff in a still-to-be-determined role. Tarver’s contract with the Raiders expired on Tuesday.

Tarver spent 10 seasons with the 49ers in a variety of coaching roles after then-coach Steve Mariucci hired him in 2001. Tarver and Tomsula served on the same defensive staff for four seasons. Tarver coached outside linebackers for his final six seasons with the 49ers and worked closely with Tomsula, the defensive line coach.
Jim Harbaugh did not retain Tarver on his staff in 2011. Tarver spent one season as Stanford’s defensive coordinator before getting hired to Dennis Allen’s staff with the Raiders in the same role.
