SANTA CLARA – The 49ers fired assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Brad Seely as part of the staff shakeup, a source confirmed to CSNBayArea.com on Friday.
Seely came to Jim Harbaugh’s staff in 2011 after coaching 22 NFL seasons. He won three Super Bowls as special teams coach with the New England Patriots. Seely coached two seasons under Eric Mangini with the Cleveland Browns before coming to San Francisco.
Running backs coach Tom Rathman and quarterbacks coach Geep Chryst have been retained on Jim Tomsula’s staff, though Chryst’s role has not been defined.
The 49ers also did not fire offensive assistants Ronald Curry and Mick Lombardi, according to a source. The Buffalo Bills have requested permission from the 49ers to interview Curry for a position on Greg Roman’s staff, a source said. Curry, a wide receiver, had a seven-year NFL playing career, all with the Raiders.
