The 49ers might not want Greg Roman back next season, but he is proving to be a popular man around the NFL.
Roman will interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive coordinator position on Saturday, according to a source. The Jaguars requested permission from the 49ers to interview Roman, as the Florida Times-Union first reported.
Former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is Jacksonville’s head coach. And Jaguars general manager David Caldwell and Roman were classmates at John Carroll University.
The Jaguars fired Jed Fisch as the team’s offensive coordinator last week. Jacksonville’s offense ranked 31st out of 32 NFL teams. The 49ers' offense ranked a disappointing 20th last season.
Roman remains under contract to the 49ers, but it is a foregone conclusion he will not return for his fifth season with the organization in that role.
He is scheduled to interview for the Buffalo Bills’ head-coaching job on Friday, according to a source. He interviewed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive-coordinator job last week.
