SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers locker room elected safety Eric Reid as the team’s union representative, the NFL Players Association announced Thursday morning.

Fullback Bruce Miller and guard Alex Boone were selected as alternates.
Reid replaces veteran center Jonathan Goodwin as the team’s player representative. The 49ers did not re-sign Goodwin in the offseason. The 13-year veteran is currently starting for the New Orleans Saints.
Reid’s selection as the team’s rep is unique because he is a second-year player on a team with a large veteran presence. Reid came to the 49ers last year as a first-round draft pick. He started every game as a rookie and was added to the Pro Bowl after recording four interceptions.
Miller enters his fourth NFL season. Boone, a fifth-year player, ended an extended offseason holdout last week to sign a new two-year, $6 million contract with the 49ers.
