Defensive lineman Ray McDonald sustained a partially torn biceps tendon Sunday night that will likely require surgery after the season, he told reporters on Tuesday.
McDonald said he does not expect to miss any time with the condition, according to reports on the Twitter feeds of the 49ers and the Sacramento Bee. McDonald said he believes he will be able to play Sunday when the 49ers return to action against the Arizona Cardinals, he told reporters at the team’s practice facility in Santa Clara.
McDonald sustained the injury to his right biceps while recording a sack against the Houston Texans in the third quarter. He was immediately removed from the game and declared “out.” He underwent an MRI examination on Monday.
Earlier Tuesday, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh suggested McDonald avoided a long-term injury during an appearance on his KNBR radio show.
