Eric Mangini, who spent his two seasons on Jim Harbaugh’s staff as a 49ers offensive coach, will reportedly interview for Washington’s vacant defensive coordinator position.
Mangini will become the second member of the 49ers’ staff to interview for the Washington job, reports NBC Washington.
Ed Donatell, the 49ers’ secondary coach, interviewed for the position with Washington coach Jay Gruden on Wednesday. Gruden parted ways with long-time defensive coordinator Jim Haslett shortly after the conclusion of the team’s 4-12 season.

The 49ers gave Donatell permission to interview for the Washington job. If 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is hired as 49ers head coach, he will target Donatell as his defensive coordinator, a source told CSNBayArea.com.
Mangini, the former head coach of the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, joined Harbaugh’s staff in 2013. Although Mangini had a defensive background, Harbaugh hired him as an offensive assistant. Mangini coached 49ers tight ends last season.
Mangini has also interviewed for the Raiders head-coaching position.
