Linebacker Aldon Smith is reportedly scheduled to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell while the 49ers are in Baltimore next Friday following their first exhibition game.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in New York on Aug. 8, the day after the 49ers’ exhibition opener while the team remains in the Baltimore area for four days of practices with the Ravens, reports ESPN.
Smith faces discipline under the NFL’s policy on substance after pleading “no contest” to DUI charges. He was sentenced to serve 11 days on a work crew. Also, he faces possible discipline under the NFL’s personal conduct policy for possession of illegal assault rifles under California law. A judge reduced the felony charges to misdemeanors.
Smith did not attend 49ers practice on Wednesday, as he took part in an office hearing in Los Angeles, in lieu of facing criminal charges for an alleged false report of a bomb threat at Los Angeles International Airport.
Smith was previously arrested on suspicion of DUI in Miami Beach in January 2012. That charge was later reduced to reckless driving after completing an alcohol education and prevention program.
After his DUI arrest in September in San Jose, Smith entered into treatment for substance abuse. Goodell said the five games Smith missed last season during his voluntary leave of absence would be considered when it was time for the NFL to mete out its discipline.
