Quarterback Josh Freeman, released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, has reportedly been contacted by the 49ers.
The 49ers “courted” Freeman, but he is not interested because he views himself as a starter, reported Mike Silver of the NFL Network. Freeman has started 59 games in his five-year career.

The 49ers signed quarterback John Skelton, a fourth-year player, to a one-year contract last week. Skelton replaced rookie B.J. Daniels on the 49ers’ roster. The Seattle Seahawks claimed Daniels off waivers.
Colt McCoy and Skelton are behind starter Colin Kaepernick on the 49ers’ depth chart. Neither McCoy nor Skelton is signed for next season.
Also, the 49ers reached out to former All-Pro defensive lineman Richard Seymour after outside linebacker Aldon Smith took a leave of absence to enter in-patient treatment for substance abuse, CBS reported. The 49ers' offer was reportedly too low for Seymour, who played eight seasons for the New England Patriots and the past four years with the Raiders.
The 49ers are currently just $935,000 under the salary cap, a source told CSNBayArea.com.
