SANTA CLARA – Coach Jim Harbaugh did not provide any updates on any of the players who were unavailable for the 49ers’ 13-10 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
The NFL has yet to notify the 49ers about whether outside linebacker Aldon Smith will be reinstated early from his nine-game suspension for violations of the league’s policies on substance abuse and personal conduct, Harbaugh said.
The 49ers' upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints would be the ninth game.
There have been multiple reports that the NFL could shorten the suspension one game due to good behavior. An NFL spokesman said Monday that there is no update on Smith's status.
Cornerback Tramaine Brock (toe) obviously sustained a setback when he returned to action Oct. 19 against the Denver Broncos. Brock was on the inactive list for Sunday’s game.
When asked whether Brock was brought back too soon, Harbaugh answered, “We’ll continue to assess that.”
Linebacker Patrick Willis missed his second game after sustaining a toe injury Oct. 13 against the Rams. Willis was seen working out before the game.
“We were monitoring it during the week, and it wasn’t there for Sunday,” Harbaugh said.
There is no word on whether Brock or Willis will be available to face New Orleans on Sunday. The Saints’ home field is artificial surface.
Linebacker Dan Skuta (left ankle) and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (hamstring) sustained second-half injuries and did not return. Both players are receiving further evaluations.
“We’re getting those looked at,” Harbaugh said.
