Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., home of the San Francisco 49ers, is open for business and its turning heads.
The state-of-the-art venue debuted in 2014. Its first official sporting event was a match between the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders, before opening up to its first full NFL season with the 49ers.
Levi's Stadium is now up for multiple awards from the Stadium Business Summit, including:
- New Venue award
- Venue of the Year award
- Premium Seating award
- Venue Technology award
While it is an honor to be nominated in all four categories, the most prominent award is Venue of the Year. Levi's is up against Sydney Cricket Ground (Australia), Wembley Stadium (UK), Maracanã Stadium (Brazil), Camp Nou (Spain) and nearby Avaya Stadium in San Jose, which is the new home of the Earthquakes.
The venue has been diverse since its opening. It held the Pac-12 Championship on Dec. 1, 2014, between the Oregon Ducks and Arizona Wildcats. The venue has also hosted an NHL Stadium Series between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings, which took place on Feb. 21, 2015. WrestleMania 31 on March 29, 2015, set a record for attendance with 79,976 announced. Levi's Stadium is also scheduled to host Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, 2016.
The $1.2 billion venue has 1.85 million square feet, seats approximately 68,500 and features 165 luxury suites and 8,500 club seats.
The official Gala Awards evening is set for Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the Nou Camp in Barcelona, Spain.
