The Rams are back in Los Angeles in 2016, and arguably the city's biggest sports star sent the team a welcome gift.
Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw shipped over 200 bottles of whiskey, enough for every player, coach and front office member, KABC-TV in Los Angeles first reported Tuesday.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner splurged by purchasing Johnnie Walker Blue Label - listed in the neighborhood of $230 apiece - with a special engravement that read: "Welcome home! LA all day."
Kershaw spent upward of $40,000 on the welcoming gift.
"It's awesome to welcome the Rams back to Los Angeles," Kershaw told CBS Los Angeles.
"L.A. is a great sports city and I've loved playing baseball here. I know our loyal L.A. fan base has been waiting for this moment for a long time. To celebrate their return and welcome the Rams back to our city, it seemed fitting to send the team limited edition bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label: Year of the Ram. I look forward to watching them play for many seasons to come. Here's to a new beginning, great success and a winning season!"
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Flea, a Los Angeles native, reacted to the purchase, Tweeting on Friday: "Kershaw gave the Rams 200 bottles of whiskey? That's just what they need for training camp. Geeez."
